I have been getting asked the same question a lot. What’s in my camera bag? How do we capture photos of our travels? When we travel we bring so much more than just a camera and a tripod. It might be a bit excessive but each piece of equipment we bring has its own purpose. No, you don’t need every single thing we bring but at least this will give you an idea of what you might want to invest in and add to your photography gear.

What’s in My Camera Bag?
Camera:
I take a lot of pictures with my iPhone 12 for convenience because let’s be real most of us have our phones constantly. Cellphones nowadays honestly take amazing photos. But I think sometimes there are just some pictures you need a camera for.
The camera I use is a Sony A6000. I’ll be honest I don’t know much about photography or cameras. I did my research before purchasing this camera and it seemed to be the best fit for me starting out. For me, it’s been pretty easy to figure out especially with the help of YouTube videos.
When Morgan travels with me she uses the Canon Rebel T6 for photos.
If you don’t know what camera to invest in I suggest watching YouTube videos and reading reviews.
Drone:
Let me preface this with I have only flown the drone 1 time. I am terrible at flying it (Mostly because I freak myself out thinking I’m going to crash it). Kyle operates the drone. Always. If he’s not on the trip, there’s a good chance that I am not bringing it. Probably not the best attitude to have but hey I’m working on it.
We used to travel with a DJI Mavic drone, it was great and we had no issues with it. Kyle decided he wanted to upgrade to the Mavic Pro because it’s an overall better platform. We are upgrading before our trip to Germany next month.
Edit: We did update to the Mavic Pro and LOVE it. It’s such an upgrade from what we were using before.
Tripods:
We travel with two tripods, one for the camera and one for the phone.
We bought both of these off of amazon and they were very reasonably priced. Don’t forget to get a remote for your camera if you don’t have someone shooting the photos for you. The phone tripod we bought does come with a remote so you don’t have to buy one.
360 Camera:
Recently, we added a 360 camera into our lives. Like 2 weeks recently. So I can’t give you a full review of it but I will say that I am super excited to use it. I’ve been watching tons of tutorials and videos shot with it and I can’t wait to see what this baby can do.
It came with a selfie stick, which ends up being invisible when shooting, and a bullet-time attachment. There are so many cool things you can do with this camera. They also have an app to easily download and edit all your content.
GoPro:
The GoPro 5 is our action camera. There are numerous accessories you can buy for it and so many different shots you can achieve.
We also just got the GoPro Dome so we can create the half-in-half out-of-the-water shots. I am super excited to try it out.
SD Card Adapter:
This thing is awesome. It plugs into your phone and has a slot for your camera’s SD card. It can quickly transfer all of your photos from the SD card to your phone without Wi-Fi and with no worry of losing the quality of the photo.
Extra Memory cards and Batteries:
Always make sure you have extra memory cards and batteries. The last thing anyone wants is to run out of space or battery life on their gear. Be sure to charge all your batteries each night so you don’t have to worry about them dying while out exploring. As an extra precaution having an external hard drive is always a good idea. You can transfer your photos to your computer each night and have extra memory just in case.
Backpack:
Last but not least you need a way to carry all your gear around. We almost never carry every single one of these items with us but we do need a few at a time. I have a small camera bag but it’s very inefficient when I need to bring more equipment. I found this amazon basics bag and it seems to be great for what we need. It has multiple moveable pockets for lenses and any other accessories you may need. It’s also perfectly sized to bring on the airplane.
